Bodybuilding and powerlifting can seem similar. They both involve bulking up and lifting weights, but that’s where similarities end since the goal of bodybuilders and powerlifters are different. Bodybuilding and powerlifting are two different sports, and each requires their distinct preparations and routines to get ready for.

If you have the best home exercise equipment and you’re deciding which sport you’d want to take up, here are the differences between the two:

Bodybuilding

In bodybuilding, an athlete must work on cardio and strength training along with bulking and cutting. Maintaining a diet suitable for building mass is important; there must be a right combination of drink, food, recovery, and supplements.

Building mass, having the right nutrition, and cardio and strength training all work to shape your body into a build that has a lot of muscle while getting rid of excess body fat and water. Not only do bodybuilders have to worry about the size of their muscle, but judges also score for symmetry, vascularity, posing, posture, and skin tone. This means that cardio is just as important as weight training.

Powerlifting

In a powerlifting competition, an athlete performs three lifts: squat, bench, and deadlift. In such a contest, the athlete with the highest scores in all three lifts wins. The training for powerlifters center around performing those three contests.

Whereas bodybuilders focus on their muscle size and figure, powerlifters train for the brute strength necessary to lift weights in a competition. Diet isn’t so much important to powerlifters as it is to bodybuilders. Rather, the diet for powerlifters is what can give them the most amount of energy. Food with high fat, high calories, and high protein is what most powerlifters eat.

The way a bodybuilder and a powerlifter approach fitness and exercise are quite different, and you can see it in the difference of their physiques. Powerlifters have stockier and less sculpted bodies compared to those of bodybuilders.
